Home Server Setup Instructions

  1. Obtain the required hardware.  If you already have an X10 firecracker with a wireless link module, then you have the minimum hardware required.  If not, InHome Solutions offers the minimum Home Server required hardware at a special promotional price of $25.

  2. Install the hardware by following the directions that came with the firecracker and wireless link module.

  3. Click on the following link: Register
    to register for a user id and password to access the InHome Solutions Home Server site where you can download the software and begin enjoying the benefits of the InHome Solutions Home Server.  You will receive your customer id, user code, and password via email.

  4. After you receive the email from InHome Solutions, click on the following link: Login
    and choose "Login".  Enter the user code and password you received via email and select LOGIN.

  5. Choose “Download”, and select “InHome Solutions Home Server Version X.X” (where X.X is the latest version of the software).  Select “Save this program to disk” and click on “OK”.  In the “Save in:” selection box, select a location where you want the software downloaded on your computer and choose “Save”.  This location is just for the download.  The setup program will install the software in the proper location.

  6. After the program download is complete, use Windows Explorer, or My Computer, to navigate to the folder where the InHome Solutions Home Server was downloaded and run setup.exe by double clicking on the program.

  7. Once the setup installation screen is displayed, click on “Start”.  Once the installation is complete, click on “OK”. A folder will be created and appear on the desktop with an icon representing "InHome Solutions Home Server".

  8. To run the InHome Solutions Home Server, click on the icon representing "InHome Solutions Home Server" described in the previous step, or click on “Start”, “Programs”, “InHome Solutions Home Server”.

  9. Once the home server application is displayed on the screen, click on the “Config Server” tab.  In the field “Customer ID:”, enter the customer id that was provided by InHome Solutions in the email you received after registration. 

  10. In the field “Firecracker Port:”, enter the number of the communication port on your computer where you installed the firecracker interface.

  11. Click on the “Server” tab.

  12. Click on “Start Service”.  You will see the stop light turn green.

  13. Click on “Hide”.  You will now see the InHome Solutions light bulb icon in the system tray.  The light bulb will appear to be turned “ON” which means the service is running.  If you move your mouse pointer over the light bulb icon in the system tray, you will see the words “InHome Solutions Home Server Running”.

  14. Congratulations!  You are now ready to add your device(s) on the Home Server web site, and begin contolling the device(s) over the internet with any web browser!

  15. Return to the InHome Solutions Home Server page where you downloaded the Home Server software earlier (it should still be open on your computer).

  16. Click on “Add device”.

  17. In the field “Device Name”, enter the name of the device that is plugged into the wireless link module (example: Lamp – Game room ).

  18. In the field “Device Location:”, enter the location of the device (example: Game Room).

  19. For Device Type:, click the down arrow on the drop down box, and choose the device type of “Appliance module”.

  20. For the “House Code”, enter the house code of the wireless link module (default for the wireless link module is “A”).

  21. For the “Unit Code”, enter the unit code of the wireless link module (default for the wireless link module is “1”).

  22. Click on the “Add” button.  The device is added to the database and can now be turned on and off over the internet.

  23. If the Home Server is installed on a PC behind a firewall, then the port will have to be opened up on the firewall before the Home Server can communicate with the InHome Solutions Server. The procedure will depend on the specific firewall being used. The port number that the Home Server utilizes is 4424.

  24. To test, click “Device List”.  When the list is displayed, the device plugged into the wireless link module you just added should be shown in the list. 

  25. Click the “ON” button, and the device plugged into the wireless transceiver should turn "ON".

  26. The procedure for adding devices may be repeated as many times as necessary to add all the X10 capable devices you desire to have the ability to control over the internet.
